I know nothing about mutual funds - except that my returns are significantly better than 99.9% of them.

What I was trying to say is that these are not real earnings, in so far as they are sustainable. IF every year the fund sells more of their assets, they will eventually run out. In the mean time though, it looks like they have accelerating earnings. But that is just smoke and mirrors. The rate at which a holding vehicle converts its liquid assets to cash should be irrelevant to an investor in that vehicle. The correct way to value equity assets IMO is to subtract their total value from Intel's market cap, thus decreasing the number of shares used for PE calculations.

As for Intel - Intel Capital specifically - they generate PROFITS which are then RE-INVESTED to provide future revenue streams - and FUTURE PROFITS.

What is inherently wrong with that?

Nothing- if you have a good reason to believe it will (can) last.
