Stephen,

When I see statements such as:

"If the Miravant product works as well and costs
less don't you think the US government would go with the cheaper homegrown version rather than the more
expensive Canadian treatment.
";

I can't help but think that Perhaps, IF a pig had a feather in its butt, maybe it might be able to fly."

Fact is that MRVT doesn't have any approved product today. And it probably won't for at least another 2 years. Do you suggest that 500,000 people just go blind each year while they're waiting for a cheaper, more effective, home grown product? ... that may never materialize.

I also wish that every desirable product would be free (for me at least). Unfortunately, that's just not the way the real world works.

And it seems that MRVT might run into FDA trouble due to selecting only those candidates for the trial that are most likely to show positive results regardless of the treatment's effectiveness. From what I've seen, the FDA panels tend to be exceptionally thorough; and are certainly nobody's fool.

QLT / Cibavision get paid by the retinal specialists regardless of the reimbursement question. Certainly, I've never seen necessary medical care withheld due to the patient's inability to pay, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear that I've led a rather sheltered existence in this regard.

Just a few thoughts on my viewpoint,
Ian.
