Not surprising at all Neo!

I am not sure how it happened for me. But I do remember being about 17 working my butt off in D.C. painting slum apartments in the 90 degree heat. I came out of one apartment to get a swig of water when I noticed a long line in front of one of those small corner liquor stores.

I asked a friend, why is there such a long line there today? And he answered...Oh, it's always like that on Welfare day. Each month thereafter I took special interest in the end of the month liquor store cycle. In some local neighborhoods, it was the only day people bothered to come out of their home!

Here I was a kid of 17, not really very well educated and I ALWAYS could find a job in and around D.C. All you had to do was be willing to show up and *work*.

Although I didn't realize it at the time, I think at that moment I became a conservative. The first time I voted I voted for Reagan. And I've been a conservative ever since.
