Qwest tops analyst estimates

Qwest Communications (Q: news, msgs) announced that it had second-quarter profit from operations of 5
cents a share, compared with the 2 cents a share it made in the year-earlier period. The consensus analyst
estimate was for a profit of 3 cents a share, according to First Call. Revenue for the period was $1.28
billion, which was 47 percent more that last year, driven by the company's Internet and data services
business. U.S. West (USW: news, msgs), which completed its merger with Qwest at the end of the quarter,
had EPS of 87 cents, topping analyst estimates by 3 cents.
