It is slander to state that science or atheism is not or cannot be the basis of ethics and morals. There are many good reasons to me ethical and moral (although I do hold that morals have a cultural component).

There are many religions which imply a diminished choice of the individual. Kharma, and "It is God's will", and just plain fate, are features of some of the most popular of religons. And the truth aspect is more dogma than axiom. It is only true because someone wrote it down (while other people wrote other things down). Age is usually given as the criteria for truth (We believed this for 4000 years so it must be true). Is there one God? or three, and does any of them have an elephant nose? In a court the witnesses may swear to tell the truth, but everyone looks at the evidence anyway.
