Well, it could have been better, but it could have been worse.
Introducing a dual processor G4 is a right thing to do to compete in the MHZ wars. It would have been far sexier had the Cube been the vehicle for this. It would have been far sexier had they also made available a super high priced quadruple G4 model.
Now there a curious situation in which the higher priced cube offers no speed advantage over the standard G4 (did I miss something?).
Where's OSX beta? I hear it's coming out end of summer. With a release date of Jan 2001? Right. Sure. I don't see how they can make a Jan release date if Beta comes out late in summer. So expect another disappointment.
At least the financials were solid. This company and this stock need some really sexy news, and this is just not it.
Too bad. Apple appears to be mired in "the box" and if they don't make a big splash with OSX soon, we're going to be hurting. Take the plunge, Apple! If your'e going to make a video play, make it as only Apple can, out of the box functionality - video cam & everything, all together and ready to go. If you're going to make an internet play, make it go beyond what every Tom Dick & Harry are already offering.
The low priced iMac is good news, particularly combined with Circuit City distribution, which is great if it works: a good way to capture new Mac users & get them committed to the Mac line. Even if this sacrifices margins, it's a good long term strategy. Bravo for that, at least!
