photo,
I do not like to hype and was pretty sure this would become a .25 stock but wanted to do more investigation. After speaking with Dr. Tony Frudakis (CEO) I mentioned to him what my drug interaction problems were and he started talking about what types of genes were probably involved. I was impressed. Dr. Frudakis has sent me a "DNA specimen Collection Kit" and I am going into their database.
I have had severe reactions to many different drugs my entire life. I avoid them at all costs and take small doses of anything before I take the recommended dose. Last year I had an anaphylactic reaction with facial and throat swelling that lasted about 6 weeks and frightened me significantly. My severe reaction shifted my thoughts from worries about troubling side effects to life threatening panic and I did not know what substance was causing the problem. Me and my doctor now believe it was herbal - I thought I was playing it safe with herbs.
After my conversation with Dr. Frudankis I started to realize how big this is. I believe more than 400,000 deaths in the U.S. are prescription drug reaction related. Just about all of us have experienced troubling side effects from one drug and then have switched to another that will do the job and had relief from many of the side effects. This technology will address that problem better than any of the other genomics labs that I have found so far. The following is from www.genomicfund.com:
Pharmagenomics Companies using genomic discoveries to create a new generation of pharmaceuticals and therapeutics. Approximately 45% of the portfolio.
- Human Genome Sciences (HGSI) Rockville, MD - Medarex (MEDX) Princeton, NJ - Millennium Pharmaceuticals (MLNM) Cambridge, MA - Protein Design Labs (PDLI) Fremont, CA - Cell Genesys (CEGE) Foster City, CA - Corixa (CRXA) Seattle, WA - Hyseq (HYSQ) Sunnyvale, CA - Tularik (TLRK) South San Francisco, CA
Bioinformatics Companies developing comprehensive genomic, DNA, and protein database libraries for analysis and sale. Approximately 16% of the portfolio.
- Celera Genomics (CRA) Rockville, MD - Gene Logic (GLGC) Gaithersburg, MD - Curagen (CRGN) New Haven, CT
Analysis Technologies Companies using advanced technologies to develop instrumentation, equipment, techniques, and software to aid in gene discovery, sequencing, and expression, as well as DNA analysis. Approximately 32% of the portfolio.
- Affymetrix (AFFX) Santa Clara, CA - Aurora Biosciences (ABSC) San Diego, CA - Diversa (DVSA) San Diego, CA - Exelixis (EXEL)South San Francisco, CA - Maxygen (MAXY) Redwood City, CA - PE Biosciences (PEB) Norwalk, CT - Visible Genetics (VGIN) Toronto, Canada
Delivery Technologies Companies using novel technologies, including vaccines and vectors, to deliver genomic therapies. Approximately 5% of the portfolio.
- Transgene SA (TRGNY) Strasbourg, France - Vical (VICL) Denver, CO
Labs I have looked into and are Not included in the fund are IVGN and ORCH.
If any of you out there have had trouble with drug side effects or know other that have you might want to highlite that in your posts. Creating awareness about the market size is very important and is not hype and is not bashable.
