You want a natural substance that can kill you? Try......... water. H2O. That stuff you drink every day, brush your teeth with, use to wash, etc., etc., etc.

A couple of weeks ago my wife thought she was getting a bladder infection. She started drinking lots of water- -the doctor-recommended procedure in that case. She drank about a gallon in about two hours. Soon after she complained of feeling "weird". Soon after that, she said she was feeling terrified and was having a panic attack. I took her to the emergency room.

Two hours later she had an epileptic seizure. Then another, then another.

Her blood test results came back. Her serum sodium level was way too low. Because of all that water. That low serum electrolyte level was causing her brain to swell and that was causing all those other problems. That swelling can result in brain herniation- -the brain starts to push itself through the opening in the base of the skull that the spinal cord passes through. Very bad.

They started her on an IV solution to restore her electrolyte balance, but this has to be done slowly (over about a day) or it can kill you too.

She is OK now, but could have ended up with (a) irrepairable brain damage, or (b) dead. Because of water.
