Wednesday July 19, 4:35 pm Eastern Time Company Press Release Tekelec's IP Telephony Solutions Chosen by NewSouth Communications MORRISVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 19, 2000--Tekelec (Nasdaq:TKLC - news) today announced that NewSouth Communications, a broadband integrated communications provider, is deploying Tekelec's switching and diagnostics solution, a product portfolio that includes multi-protocol network infrastructure, advanced revenue-generating services, and network monitoring and surveillance. NewSouth Communications plans to deploy EAGLE® LNP (local number portability), IP7 Secure Gateway(TM), ASi 4000(TM) SCP, and IP7 Sentinel(TM) to develop a state-of-the-art packet-switching network architecture for signaling and media management.
The four product lines will use the open-industry standard TALI, pioneered by Tekelec, to interwork with other NewSouth network elements. The EAGLE LNP solution, integrated directly into the IP7 Secure Gateway, will deliver more than 20,000 transactions per second for up to 12 million records. The IP7 Secure Gateway will provide a full range of applications, including signaling for voice over packet, Internet access, and new service deployment. NewSouth will use the ASi 4000 SCP to control network switches from multiple vendors and to launch seamless applications with a wide array of prepackaged solutions. IP7 Sentinel offers NewSouth network surveillance and fault management, including problem identification, analysis, and resolution verification.
``What impressed us most about Tekelec was that they focused on our specific needs as an ICP and offered us an open architecture built on interoperable products to meet our current and future needs,'' commented Amy Gardner, senior vice president of network planning and provisioning for NewSouth. ``A critical factor in our decision to purchase Tekelec's products is their interoperability with other vendors' infrastructure. This capability enables our network to deliver the latest in IP telephony and advanced intelligent communication products to our customers.''
Mike Margolis, Tekelec's president and CEO, stated, ``Tekelec and its suite of TALI-enabled products, which interoperate with all other TALI-compliant third party solutions, will provide NewSouth the flexibility and the scalability to enhance its IP telephony network as requirements grow. NewSouth's purchase is an excellent example of our customer-focused solutions. We are also pleased that NewSouth will be deploying such a wide range of Tekelec products from several of our business units.''
About EAGLE LNP
Tekelec's EAGLE LNP is the most widely selected LNP solution. Tekelec's EAGLE LNP performs more than 20,000 transactions per second for up to 12 million records, on a single platform that simultaneously supports over 400 SS7 links. It integrates local routing number and message relay translation directly into the EAGLE STP, helping carriers to meet FCC-mandated number portability requirements while delivering significant operating cost savings and improved reliability and quality of service.
About IP7 Secure Gateway
The IP7 Secure Gateway, a carrier-grade signaling platform, provides a single connection for multi-protocol, multi-vendor networks. With a fully scalable architecture, the IP7 Secure Gateway can handle from two to 450 SS7 links, one to 10 million dial access ports, and two to 20 million busy hour call attempts. The IP7 Secure Gateway centralizes signaling in the network and provides control to a large span of IP-network elements such as media gateway controllers, media gateways, SCPs, and remote access servers.
About ASi 4000 SCP
Tekelec's ASi 4000 SCP provides voice and IP-telephony networks competitive new revenue-generating services such as call routing and enhanced service capabilities. The platform interfaces to traditional advanced intelligent networks through standard SS7 links and to next-generation networks through IP-enabled SS7 signaling.
About IP7 Sentinel
IP7 Sentinel enables service providers to monitor, maintain, and ensure the reliability of services implemented across public switched telephone networks, next generation wireline and wireless, and Internet protocol-based converged voice and data networks. IP7 Sentinel detects and assists in correcting network-wide problems from a central location and monitors and traces calls end-to-end. It enables a number of applications, including those deployed for fraud detection, billing verification, and quality of service measurements.
