They have an interesting history, taking their share of profits for an decent Northern Nevada Mine (Jerritt Canyon) and buying a GREAT mine - El Peñón mine is located in the Atacama Desert in Region II of northern Chile
Being from RSA, you might enjoy the following history: "Jerritt Canyon was discovered in 1972 by Meridian employees, who were then part of FMC. In 1976, a joint venture was formed with Freeport Minerals Company, subsequently Freeport McMoRan Inc., to explore and develop the area, and mining began at Jerritt Canyon in 1981. In 1990, Freeport McMoRan sold its interest in Jerritt Canyon to Minorco for approximately $705 million, and their wholly-owned subsidiary, Independence Mining Company, became the new joint venture partner and operator of the mine. In 1998, Minorco's North America gold assets, including their 70% interest in Jerritt Canyon, were sold to Anglogold. " |
