To anyone who knows:

Wife's van (boring 95 Dodge Grand Caravan with 60K miles, 3.0 Ltr 6 cylinder) developed a sound that I initially attributed to low oil and a little valve clatter (based on having heard a similar noise many times as a teenager (many years ago) in cars that were lucky to have any oil -- the clatter was always the sign that too much had burned off and it was time to add more). I told her to take it and have the oil changed. She did and was told that the oil level was fine and that the clatter was lifters. Does anyone know if the lifters on this engine are adjustable or is this a sign of imminent major engine problems?

TIA

Troy

PS - I had one car as a kid that clattered so loudly that we put VERY heavy oil (almost the consistency of grease) into the crankcase just to shut it up long enough to sell it. I don't recall there being laws against such things in those days. Even still, I was still always amazed that the guy that bought it never came back complaining.
