thank you, Curtis, for your succinct and cogent response. i have read glw's 10k's and annual reports for the 2 years i have owned the stock, and, on a level superficial compared to your own, have some knowledge of glw's operations.
your point that glw and nt are not directly comparable is well taken - i appreciate your careful inclusion of the modifier. what's been puzzling me is the tremendous earnings multiplier glw has accumulated in comparison to nt's. i guess the answer is that glw fabricates the sine qua non of optical communications: the fiber and the components, while nt is in the space one level above, a less fundamental position. and i guess the market rewards that difference in so lopsided a fashion because nowadays, as never before, investors must own a strong company at any price.
i've just returned from overseas, otherwise i'd have answered sooner.
is there, in your opinion, a marked difference in quality between glw's LEAF and lu's best fiber?
