Calico Commerce Ships Update to Leading eBusiness Applications Suite

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 20, 2000--

Enhanced Suite Based on J2EE(tm) Standard to Provide Corporations Advanced Scalability and Rapid Time to Market

Calico Commerce, Inc. (Nasdaq: CLIC), a leading provider of eBusiness solutions that enable companies to sell over the Web, today announced enhancements to the Calico product suite to meet customer demand for advanced, standards-based e-Commerce applications. The company broadened its technology leadership by shipping major enhancements to its Calico(R) Advisor(tm), Calico(R) Market Maker(tm) and Calico(R) Loyalty Builder(tm) applications, providing advanced functionality and a robust platform to enable direct selling over the Web and through Net marketplaces. Calico's suite of applications enables companies to engage customers via the Web to drive revenue growth while lowering operating expenses and increasing customer loyalty.

All of the products in Calico's application suite are based on the Calico Lightning Architecture, a JAVA 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) compliant application server solution. The Calico Lightning Architecture provides customers with massive scalability, rapid time to market and the highest performance and reliability of services available from an eBusiness platform. The new versions of Calico Advisor, Calico Market Maker and Calico Loyalty Builder offer expanded capabilities and improved integration based on the Calico Lightning Architecture. This is the second upgrade to Calico's J2EE-based product line in the year 2000, further demonstrating momentum behind the new architecture.

"Businesses today are demanding an open, scalable solution from e-Commerce software providers, and we are addressing those needs by shipping a very powerful, standards-based solution," said Alan Naumann, president and CEO, Calico Commerce, Inc. "Calico customers are successfully deploying our J2EE-based applications while other vendors are announcing plans to ship standards-based products over the next 12 months. Our new release provides customers with the industry's most advanced technology for selling direct over the Web and in Net markets."

Highlights of Product Suite Enhancements

Calico Advisor, a high performance configuration and recommendation application for selling complex products, gains advanced "network" configuration capabilities along with enhancements that boost its market leading performance by up to 33%. Calico Market Maker, a leading Net market application for many-to-many digital marketplaces, added numerous enhancements to streamline quoting, order management and content management to dramatically reduce the time and costs required to set-up and operate a Net marketplace. In addition, all applications in the suite benefit from enhancements to the Lightning Architecture including shared components for improved interoperability between applications. The enhanced Calico suite is now shipping to customers on maintenance and is available to new customers immediately. Calico offers its products in several packaging options with prices starting at $295,000.
