Michael Dell, chairman and chief executive officer, told investors that Dell's leading role in the global build out of the Internet infrastructure portends significant current and future opportunities for the company.

"We're already the second-largest supplier of servers in the world," said Mr. Dell. "Our growth in servers and storage products last quarter exceeded 50 percent, and was 18 times the combined rate of the rest of the industry's top-10 companies."
Dell's expansive use of Web-based tools within its own business, he said, gives the company tremendous credibility with customers wanting to harness the Internet for their own organizations. He added that the fundamental customer-focus and cost advantages of Dell's direct business model are as compelling in the Internet age as ever.
"The Internet-infrastructure opportunity is tremendous, and a natural complement to our very healthy business around products at the edge of the Internet," said Mr. Dell. "Together we expect them to allow us to continue to grow at a multiple of the total market, improve our product mix and enhance profitability."
