Here is one example (of thousands): You own land that the city wants to build a public road on. The city has many choices where to build this road, but they become obsessed with building the road on your land. No one person or group has a "right" to build a road on your land unless you agree to sell the land. You do not agree. Building the road on your land would cost the city $1.2 million less than building it anywhere else. Highway engineers have calculated a road built on your land would save commuters 3.10 minutes in travel time. In a society truly based on liberty, individual rights and property rights, the commuters' desire to save several minutes travel time and the city's desire to save up to $1.2 million in additional costs DO NOT supercede your rights to do what you wish with your land. They have a need, but their need does not surpass or negate your rights. Another quick example: the government denies me the right to my own money so they can give it away to people they have identified as having a greater need for the money than I do. The government is, therefore, violating my individual rights and property rights in the name of "need." FT
