Back in January 2000, I believe Eli said he could have sold 3-4 times the product if he had it available to sell.

I infer from this that SNDK was blind-sided!

Their marketing research let them down.

When SNDK introduced the MMC card they expected it be a BIG seller. If I recall correctly they expected cell phones to be the BIG user of MMC. I don't think MP3 was on their radar screen.

It has been over 2 1/2 years since the introduction of the MMC. How many people have you seen using a cell-phone with MMC? I think the early optimism for MMC was pre-mature for cell phones but late for MP3 players.

Now Eli says they have been blind-sided by demand for Digital Video Camera demand.

What will be the next device they get blind-sided by?

Auto-PC's? Cable Boxes?

I believe SNDK has sucked at understanding the demand for product. Their marketing forecasts blew it!

Marketing forecasts prevented them from obtaining enough capacitors also.

I am sorry, but the analysts are being WAY too conservative on the growth rate. To get to 12M units by the year 2000, SNDK needs to grow
by about 300% per year; 50K to 12M in 4 years.
SNDK is starting to see growth, conservatively, in excess of 150% per year.

People just don't understand the importance of design-ins. We knew this was going to happen.
