I was wondering if anyone had opinion on the announcement that Stephen King chose to bypass traditional publishers as well as e-book publishers, and publish his latest work in segments to be downloaded off his personal website.

He is requesting each person that download a segment send in a $1 contribution on the honor system in lieu of traditional payment via royalties from a publisher. The work will be an on-going story, with new segments published only if the system works out for him.

Truly curious, and I think this is a fluke, based on his ability to garner support through his long-term standing as a popular author. I don't think this method would command much revenue for the aspiring author.
