last law suit that was with AMD ended up costing intel between $300-$400
million in legal fees alone. But intel can settle right now without
redesigning their pentium chips. It looks like it would be like another long(years)
legal battle with AMD which end up in a lot of losses. The lawyer that testified on
behalf of AMD gave his legal opinion that DEC's claims might be logit. The
AMD lawyer's statement is also an indication that amd is not under threat of
legal actions from DEC and even probably support DEC in its efforts.
Besides the legal fees that might run into hundreds of millions of
dollars the patents from DEC affect about $50 billion in Pentium sales. And
plus to that intel might need to redesign their current products.
