Re My only question is whether AMD had COPIED the APIC in the past few years - since they have had plenty of time - and sneaked it into their AthWipers.

For these SMP systems the infrastructure to debug and the validation process they (OEM) go through is very detailed. I wonder how many OEMs are going to invest in this effort, particularly with the heavy cost of this validation infrastructure. Also when initial volumes are very low.
