I didn't mean that I, myself, want to modify an O/S. I'm thinking about some nonvolatile memory technologies that are getting nearer to viability for main memory. Discussions have come up regarding what is necessary to incorporate them into PC systems.

Seems to me, the only thing affected would be the boot-up routine. Memory management during run-time wouldn't be affected, since DRAM refresh now provides "non-volatility". Chipsets and bus architectures would change dramatically, though. (All my ignorant opinion).

Thanks for the response and the A.T. suggestion. Maybe he'll respond in public.
