What special software is needed to download videos?

Even with BB a download would take a long time. Thats not the issue however. The real issue is that there is no decent video content out there. Where is the online video store?

You don't think that people wouldnt pay $40/month just so they dont have to run to the video store *twice* for every time they rent a movie? Online movies should be a lot cheaper too with the lower overhead.

First run movies for $1 and save over 1/2 hour of your time? How much is that worth?

More important is that it is the kind of feature that has mass appeal. Nobody can doubt that everyone would use it. There is virtually no downside- kinda like switching from LP's to CDs.

*Then* they find out what else broadband has.

There is a major psychological hurdle to overcome to convert your average home to broadband internet. A huge percentage still don't have any internet service at all! VOD would be the ice breaker.

But it's still not here. I guess it upsets the power structure too much.
