CharlyMane - Religion is a civilizing factor? It may have been a unifying factor for many cultures, but it certainly didn't civilize them!

Just the opposite, in fact. It slowed the development of society by being a conservative force that was hostile to change.

In the spirit of Solon's postings, I suggest that people change religions every few years to get a feel for the other religion's bigotry and incivility.

Alternatively, we could just elect a new god for fixed four-year terms. Then we wouldn't have to worry about replacing her with something better whenever our society gains a bit of civility. Personally, I'd vote for a libertarian!
