But neither have they commented on Dr. J's repeated allegations that wdma is covered by his patents.

I think they are still trying to negotiate a way out of a bind. Refuting Dr. J's statements would make that very difficult. Confirming them would constitute capitulation. That leaves ignoring them as their only viable option.
