The author seems to miss the point here. The force sent to the home was not a bunch of social workers with clipboards and lollypops. The whole purpose of the raid was to collect Elian as quickly and with least amount of resistance. Of course they were scary looking, the better to keep the people in the house from making some foolish attempt at resistance. I suppose you think they should have sent in Jimmy Carter to talk them out.
