Hi Karen,

I tend to agree that an investigation seems like a waste at this point. Even if the results determined gross negligence and a disregard for the fourth amendment, which I suspect it would, it would simply be lambasted by the press as election year mud slinging.

I don't believe anyone is immune from their life experiences. The mental models I carry with me I am sure have affected my view of this event. It's always a challenge to unpeel our biases and determine if what we're are seeing, is indeed reality (or close to it). I grew up in D.C. and many of my close friends were black. So I've seen quite a bit of inappropriate police tactics used on people simply because of the way they look, or the way they hung around a store, house, or just for the heck of it.

On the flip side, in recent years, I've become close friends with a few policemen and can understand the difficulties and dangers of their job. And I don't believe most people fully appreciate the dangers cops face every day. Further, I can understand how wearing a uniform can easily make you a target to zealot followers of any ideology.

So overall I would say it's a mixed bag.

Do you think your view of these events may have been shaped by personally never having had a run in with law enforcement?

Michael
