Actually, having Jimmy Carter go in would have been a pretty good idea, (if he would have been willing). He's an impressive peacemaker, and because of his stature I bet it would have worked out well. He's certainly gone into much more dangerous situations in the past.

My initial thought was to ask a local respected priest from the area to walk up to the home (in broad daylight), with an INS agent and present the court order. Provided of course they would have waited long enough to obtain one.
