Bill:
Here is another Office for Java review. This writer is quite positive on the product, even at this stage of the game. Remember that a beta/preview has only been released and all the goodies are not included.
For example, a spell checker from Inso will be incorporated. Groupware capabilities from Sanga, and push-technology from Marimba will also be included. Corel will also be using Novera's EPIC Enterprise Platform for Internet Computing to provide network file and print services.

Following are a few excerpts from the article:
We took Corel's first beta release of Office for Java out for a spin and found that, despite some user interface compromises and interoperability issues, this product indeed delivers on Java's promise of turning the network into the computer. In particular, organizations requiring thin client-capable and cross-platform productivity solutions will not go wrong with Corel Office for Java.
On the standards front, Corel is actually quite open. Out of the box, the product will support Vcalendar for scheduling, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol for directory interoperability, and Internet Message Access Protocol for E-mail.
A more serious problem, however, is the incompatibility between Office for Java and other products. Once created within Office for Java, data remains locked and inaccessible to other outside applications.
... These shortcomings should dissolve as Corel enhances the product and adds import and export filters when it ships this summer. But even if they don't disappear, we highly recommend Corel Office for Java. Its document-centric and client/server approach to productivity makes it a hard product to beat, on either the leanest NC or the fattest PC.
