Thanks, but unfortunately this isn't the problem. There's another registry setting that causes the Explorer to open an Explorer window at startup, even if there wasn't one open at shutdown. It's a bit obscure in that there's nothing obvious from the setting that it will have this effect, but I can't for the life of me remember the registry entry itself. Something like default class (maybe). Anyhow, obscure.
