Frank. Although, through IP over ATM I suppose that it'd work. Maybe it is doable in
the present state of affairs, but I'm not aware of how it would be done, specifically, with mediation
products that are being used today.

In the cases of SBC Pronto, they are using ALA DSLAMs
and Newbridge(now Alcatel) ATM switching platform and management system.
Now they are staring to buy 670 routing switching platform
which has ATM and IP/MPLS protocols independently.
ALA is ramping 50Mbs/s and later 450 Mbs/s multi-shelf version fro core and edge.
This way I guess SBC can provide IP services over ATM.
The same with British Telecom and France Telecom.

Looks that IP/ATM brings best of two and big carriers are recognizing that.
