7/20...PHCM...PHCM results wow analyst
--12:27 pm - By Michael Baron
Phone.com (PHCM: news, msgs) is surging 16 1/8, or 18.2 percent, to 104 1/2. The Redwood City, Calif., mobile telephone technology firm posted a fourth-quarter loss of $8 million, or 10 cents a share, wider than last year's loss of $6.6 million, or 30 cents, and ahead of First Call's loss forecast of 19 cents a share. Sales jumped 327 percent in the latest three months to $28.7 million from $18.7 million in the same period a year earlier. The results prompted Banc Boston Robertson Stephens to raise its revenue and earnings views on the company for fiscal 2000 and 2001. "We are raising our estimates to reflect momentum and improved visibility," said analyst Marianne Wolk in a press release. "We believe Phone.com will experience tremendous growth over the next year, as most (if not all) of its 77 carrier customers enter full-scale deployment."
