Dataquest Says Global PC Shipments Rose 18% On-Year In Q2 Dow Jones Newswires
TOKYO -- Dataquest Inc. (X.DQU), a unit of Gartner Group Inc. (IT), said Monday that worldwide shipments of personal computers (PCs) posted an 18% on-year rise for the second quarter.
For the April-June quarter, global PC shipments totaled 31.62 million units, Dataquest said.
According to Dataquest, Compaq Computer Corp. (CPQ) retained its top share of the world's PC market in the second quarter. Compaq's PC shipments rose 5.8% on-year to 3.98 million units, representing a 12.6% global market share.
A close second was Dell Computer Corp. (DELL) which shipped 3.38 million PCs, up 24.6% from a year earlier. Dell won a 10.6% share of the worldwide PC market, Dataquest said. Third was Hewlett-Packard Co. (HWP), which shipped 2.25 million PCs, up 34.2% on year. HP's share was 7.1%.
