A very good negotiator at work...enabling a person who wants to do a deal, meet his own expectations....




On US Navy ships there used to be a cigarette ration of two cartons per month.

One navy guy who didn't smoke, took his ration and accumulated about 50 cartons of cigarettes which he planned on reselling when the ship was in the middle east.

The ship anchored off Egypt and the bum boats came along side to buy and sell.

The navy guy dickered with one of these boats and they settled on a price for the cigarettes.

The boat guy said, "you give me the cigarettes and I'll give you the money."

The navy guy said, "no, you give me the money and I'll give you the cigarettes."

The boat guy said "no; how about I tie my boat to your ship you give me the cigarettes and I'll pay you?"

The navy guy said, "ok, toss me your line."

Since the bum boats' line was tied to the navy ship there was no danger, thought the navy guy.

(The cheap line was tied to the navy ship.)

The boat guy says, "give me the cigarettes and I'll pay you."

The navy guy hands over the cigarettes to the boat guy.

The navy guy is now expecting to get paid, but instead sees the bum boat rowing away and not making payment.


You see, the bum boats line was tied to the navy ship but not the bum boat.
