Guess what, Tandem and Informix already set the world standard for retail data bases at WalMart. Of course its done on their risc Unix boxes. The issue here is that TDM is partnering with MSFT to 'pull' NT up to this level. TDM has charted a future course using pretty successful partners.

The quoted comment by Addi is kind of inane. Although he works for Informix, it displays an inherent lack of market sense. Of course the Tandem-Micro$oft announcement is a PR thing. If NT were capable of doing a Unix job, the Unix folks would be out of business. The message is that M$FT is coming, and they know how to market, and they know how to sell. If NT were up to the job, they wouldn't bother cutting a deal with Tandem.

What I'd like to know from Addi is where IFMX fits into all this. Tandem has seemed to be one of their better partners. Is this more of the IFMX implosion? The technology of databases seems to be sort of trivial, appearance is everything. How are appearances now?
