. I instantly noticed that my eyes stopped itching and they no longer feel fatigued even after a really long stint in front of the screen. (Joel will probably tell us that something else caused the itching, but for whatever reason it stopped happening when I bought the LCD display. :)

Not at all - CRTs often build up electric charge on the front surface. This causes an electric field between the CRT and your face which attracts particles of dust, pollen etc not only to the CRT face but also to your eyes.

The better tubes have a transparent conductive shield to minimise this effect.
