need to change instruction sets, so they can't even continue the same game

It's that transition which is going to flush them down the toilet once and for all. Imagine the scene one year from today. Ultrasparc III will be out and useful, and at the same time it will be dawning on people that Itanic will never really be important, which the Wintel minions steadfastly deny even though it's by now obvious. There will be many people running around like chickens with their heads cut off, and even more people buying Sun equipment.

On this one point the callow youth Chic Hearne has it right: AMD, assuming it can execute, will pick up the pieces when Intel finally pays for its endless mistakes in judgment.

It's a miracle that Sun is still in a position to maintain its lead into the next round even though it has fumbled its next generation processor almost as bad as Intel. The window must close eventually. They need to get the damn thing out.
