Actually, I don't get the point. Our visions of this system must be quite different.
My guess is it's a multiprocessor system with 16 processing units each containing their own chunk of memory. (Not shared). How else could Sony claim 50.3 GB/s bus bandwidth? (Or 3.1GB/s x 16 per the spec.). In that configuration I think the mobo would need only six layers for a DDR implementation. I believe even Rambus has stated DDR requires only 6 layers. (In fact, there are probably multiple mobo's in the Sony system. The reason it's a cube?)
