Rockport is on the North Shore of the Boston Metro area. It was the site of a thriving granite quarrying industry in the 1880's and a vital fishing port. After the granite industry died it it bacame a sleepy little fishing village until the 1940s when it was discovered by local artists. It is quite a thriving artist colony nowadays. It is the quintessential New England seacoast village. Lots of fascinating shops, B&Bs, small hotels and restaurants. JLA
