Hi Nancy; I guess you caught me on my misstatement about Abraham and Mosaic law. You are well versed on the Old Testament and the completeness of the Bible but are you referring that the Old Testament covenants are in any way wrapped up with New Covenant doctrine?
You said, "God did provide atonement in many ways and times under the Mosaic covenant."
Now atonement to me is based on Christ's death for our sins. Are you saying that God looked forward in the future to the Crucifixion and provided atonement based on the death of Christ in the future?
He also expected for them to very much keep the law and punishment was severe for many seemingly small infractions of the law.
Once again I will say that nothing that the old law provided would provide complete forgiveness. It was only types and shadows of the future atonement that would be provided by Christ.
The fact is that God provided grace even then by forgiveness through faith in Him although it was a secret held in God's mind.
Look at the differences in Mosaic law and Christ's Sermon on the mount and I think you will see that Jesus is providing a much better way than the "old covenant". A new way that would supercede the law that only convicted us.

James
