Presstek Ships 500th PEARL Direct Imaging System

HUDSON, N.H., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Presstek, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRST) today announced the shipment of its 500th PEARL(R) Direct Imaging system used in Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG's Quickmaster DI 46-4 digital printing press.

Robert E. Verrando, president of Presstek, stated, ``The shipment of our 500th Direct Imaging system since June 1995 underscores the market's continued acceptance of the Quickmaster's direct-to-press digital imaging capability and our ongoing strategic relationship with Heidelberg. As we have previously reported, we plan to increase production of our PEARL Direct Imaging system for the Quickmaster to an average of 4 per day, or 80 per month, by September of this year. Our current rate is now 3 per day, or 60 per month.''

Presstek, Inc., founded in 1987, has developed PEARL, a patented, proprietary non-photographic, toxic-free, digital imaging and printing plate technology for the printing and graphic arts industries on a worldwide basis. PEARL's thermal laser diode system is capable of imaging various types of Presstek printing plates either off-press or on-press to produce high quality, full-color lithographic printed materials. Presstek is also engaged in the development of additional products and applications that incorporate its proprietary PEARL technologies and consumables, including both computer-to- plate and other direct-to-press applications.
