Yes, 6656 is pretty short by pro standards. But look at that slope. I've played Westchester and Doral and a few other hard courses but I never recall a slope of 153. That is huge....the average course is 113. That's what they key off. I think Westchester is perhaps 137 or so. 153 is perhaps a stroke and a half harder, and par looks to be two stokes higher.

Been years since I played Westchester....but 153 with a 74.1 is really big. To me anyway. I play reasonable courses a bit and 129 is the normal slope I play.

Let's check Butler.....

wow

Higher rating, longer yardage, but lower slope. Butler, from what I understand, is supposed to be a monster. 144 slope.

Doral.....

Now lower rating, longer yardage, but much lower slope. 130 slope.

Courses like Pine Valley and Butler aren't on the tour and probably are not in a rush to be. Playing the Blue Monster at Doral is a big Tour Event in the late Winter/Early Spring. Does it make Doral's Blue Monster a better course than Butler?

I think what happens is, Doral is a Resort course. They need to have a tourney each year, it sells the tourista.

I realize you were merely passing on facts and figure for this discussion.....I'm merely making an observation.

Seems timely anyway, with the British Open being such a incredible event.
