Macromedia Shockwave Player to incorporate Intel 3D graphics
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - One of the most widely used multimedia players on the Web is going 3-D. Macromedia Inc. (NasdaqNM:MACR - news) and Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - news) are joining development forces to incorporate Intel's 3-D graphics technology into Macromedia's Shockwave Player, the companies said Monday.
Shockwave Player - which displays Web content, such as multi-user games, interactive product simulations and online entertainment - is used by more than 130 million people worldwide, the companies said.
The 3-D feature, expected to be in place by next year, "will allow 3-D to take off on the Web," said Steve Spina, director of technology marketing at Intel's Architecture Lab.
The joint effort "will bring the realism and impact of interactive 3-D to e-merchandising, e-learning and entertainment on the Web," added Diane Rogers, vice-president of product management for San Francisco-based Macromedia.
The 3-D feature will be automatically updated when a user runs the player from a Web site. © The Canadian Press, 2000 |
