NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Merrill Lynch & Co. analyst Steven Fortuna cut his estimates of Dell Computer Corp.'s (DELL) revenue for the second through fourth quarters of fiscal 2001.
For the second quarter through July, Fortuna now expects Dell's revenue to be $7.75 billion, down from his earlier estimate of $7.942 billion.
He reduced his third-quarter revenue estimate to $8.672 billion from $8.888 billion, and his fourth-quarter estimate to $9.466 billion from $9.701 billion.
In a research note, Fortuna said Dell personal computer shipment growth was low in the June calendar quarter, at 22% to 24%, according to data from Dataquest Inc. and International Data Corp. As reported, Dataquest said Dell shipped 3.38 million PCs, up 24.6% from a year earlier.
"We did some checks and feel it is appropriate to cut our revenue numbers," Fortuna wrote in the note. "Our new fiscal year 2001 revenue growth (projection) for Dell is now 31.3%, down from our previous growth rate (projection) of 33.8%." Fortuna said earnings-per-share estimates will remain the same.
