Thread,

FWIW.....from Sharky's, via and AMD roadmaps:

sharkyextreme.com

It's a long article, and some good info on all the via chips(ets) and other.

So here is what we have to look forward to:

Continued competition for Intel from AMD - the Mustang will face the Pentium 4 and the Corvette will face the Mobile Pentium III and Mobile Celeron.

AMD for Businesses - AMD will try to move into the business PC market, though they will likely need servers to make major inroads.

Continued competition for Intel from VIA - VIA is coming out with a wide variety of chipsets and technology that will give Intel a run for their money.

Integrated video - VIA will be shipping chipsets without video, but they will also be shipping chipsets with integrated S3 Savage 4 graphics. Not all of these chipsets will be external AGP 4x capable.

DDR for the P6 then the K7 - VIA is fully behind DDR, at least according to everything they say and do. There are even rumors that there is a DDR chipset in the works for the Pentium IV.

Faster internal I/O - V-Link and LDT will get rid of or at least decrease the bottleneck between the northbridge and southbridge.

DDR versus RDRAM - When DDR SDRAM finally ships for PC main memory, either later this year or early next year, expect to see sparks fly. Whether RDRAM triumphs or fails, with Rambus' positioning, they're likely to be a winner either way.

ACR - The Advanced Communications Riser standard will compete with Intel's CNR slot. ACR has a lot of support on its side but CNR has Intel. We expect both standards will be successful.
