Dear Paul:

Intel plays fast and loose with what it considers is in Operating Profits or not. Stuff shipped to distributors but not sold is in revenue but AMD and normal folks like us do not include it. Removing it, from the note in the Q2 report, shows that Q2 00 is reduced by 192 million and raises Q2 99 291 million, thus YOY is not 952 million but 465 million or 51% of the Normal YOY revenue gain of 910 million (a 15% YOY increase versus a 71% increase for Other revenue). If Intel pulls these shenanigans in their Q2 report, why should we trust that other expenses are removed from IABG group or additional non typical revenues are added? Either inflate the profits of the IABG group at the expense of other. AMD and most companies at least break down the revenues and operating profits of each of their divisions.

Intel states that at least four Named divisions are wrapped up in the "Other" numbers. What are they hiding from their own stockholders? Intel should break out the revenues and operating expenses for their four named divisions at least. Then at least a reasoned discussion can be done with actual data on the effectiveness of this other business. All that can be said now, is that this mess is very unprofitable. Yet by all accounts, pieces of it must be generating a decent profit like flash manufacturing. It is this that the SEC, and Wall Street in general, should insist that Intel provide.

Pete
