Rare Medium Extends Alliance With Sun Microsystems As iForce eIntegrator

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 25, 2000--

Partnership Expands Rare Medium's Ability to Develop Internet

Solutions Based on Sun's Software and Hardware

Rare Medium (Nasdaq:RRRR) today announced the extension of its existing alliance with Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq:SUNW) which will leverage the expertise of the two companies to develop Internet solutions using Sun(TM) hardware, iPlanet(TM) software and the Solaris(TM) Operating Environment.

These solutions will enable both well-established enterprises and fledgling start-up companies to conduct all types of electronic commerce and client interactions with world-class, highly reliable and scaleable web applications.

The agreement expands the existing relationship between the two companies and includes Rare Medium in the Sun iForce(TM) eIntegrator program, which focuses on delivering fully integrated e-commerce solutions and Internet-driven application development. Through this alliance, Rare Medium will benefit from investments by Sun Microsystems. These investments will enable Rare Medium to further train its development staff in leading-edge Sun technologies to benefit the clients of both companies. Sun will also make equipment and software investments in Rare Medium to allow the company to quickly deploy the latest enhancements to Sun's and iPlanet's product lines. Sun Microsystems will receive sales influence from Rare Medium's integration of Sun products into its clients' solutions. The two companies will also participate in joint sales and marketing activities.

"Sun understands how to partner with leading iForce eIntegrators like Rare Medium to quickly respond to new market opportunities," said Joe Womack, vice president of Sun Microsystems Americas eSun(TM) Partner Sales. "Sun's partnering model is very adaptable to the specific business needs of the iForce eIntegrator and is flexible enough to allow them to build the best technology solutions for their clients."

Rare Medium is currently a participant in the Sun iForce initiative, which is enabling Rare Medium to build competency centers based on Sun technology, ranging from the Java(TM) technology to Sun and iPlanet hardware and software. Rare Medium is also involved in the Sun iForce Startup Essentials program, in which startup companies receive discounted products and services from program participants. These discounted offerings help to support these new companies in a critical phase of their life cycle.

"The formation of this alliance reflects the deepening of our successful relationship with Sun Microsystems," says Brian Francis, senior vice president of global alliances for Rare Medium. "By continuing to partner with premier companies like Sun Microsystems, Rare Medium is enhancing its ability to deliver superior Internet solutions to its clients."
