ALAMEDA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 1997--Ascend Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:ASND) and Cascade Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:CSCC) today announced that they have received a request from the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) for additional information in connection with their previously announced plan to combine the two companies. This "second request" extends the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976, as amended, during which the DOJ is permitted to review the transaction, until 20 calendar days after the parties have complied substantially with the information request. Ascend and Cascade intend to comply with the request promptly.
