7/25... LSI Logic Plunges Despite Matching 2Q View

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Shares of LSI Logic Corp. (LSI) plunged in the late
trading session after the chip maker reported second-quarter earnings of 29
cents a share, excluding items.
Although the earnings figure matched the consensus estimate compiled by
First Call/Thomson Financial, LSI shares recently traded at 40 3/4, Reuters'
Instinet said, down from their New York Stock Exchange close of 48 13/16.
LSI's second-quarter revenue was $644.3 million, compared with $501 million
a year ago.
Including items, the company earned 21 cents a share.
Also reporting quarterly earnings after Tuesday's bell were Compaq Computer
Corp. (CPQ) and EBay Inc. (EBAY). Both company's stocks rose in the
after-hours session following the news.
With second-quarter earnings of 21 cents a share excluding investment gains,
Compaq also matched the First Call consensus view. In an earnings conference
call, Compaq predicted third-quarter earnings of 29 cents a share on revenue
of $10.8 billion. According to Instinet, Compaq shares recently changed
hands at 28 1/16, up from their close of 27 7/16 at the bell.
EBay shares meanwhile inched up 1/4 from their regular-session close to 56
1/2, Instinet said. EBay earned 5 cents a share in the second quarter,
beating the First Call consensus estimate by 2 cents.
