It is the specific, planned, and authorized agenda of the Clinton/Albright policy. I think you'll find that support for that policy is quite bipartisan. Don't expect it to change if Bush gets in. Nor is it anything new, just an extension of the old "we had to destroy the village in order to save it" attitude. Is there any real difference between the sanctions imposed on Iraq and those imposed on Cuba? If they had their druthers they'd just as soon gas the little buggers. If it wasn't for the US and UN presence they would have their druthers, and they would gas the little buggers. The bottom line is these kids would not be dieing by the hundreds of thousands if we were not doing what we are doing. Not necessarily true. If Iraq were allowed to export oil and other products the government would have more money, but there is no assurance that any of this money would trickle down to or be spent on the villagers in question. And if US aircraft weren't enforcing no-fly zones over portions of Iraq, a lot of those kids would have been blown up by the Iraqi air force before they had a chance to starve. It is not such a simple issue.
