I don't know websphere but this sounds like what webmethods does since the aswx acquisition. I am really high on this part of b2b. Its the back-office integration part, it combines 4 things generally - Workflow software, some kind of TP monitor for tranaction control, XML mapper and adapter layer into ERP's. The idea is that you accept transactions through the marketplace, then using this backoffice integration/XML software you create workflows that say "send a transaction to the bank whenever X$ come through this vendor.. " etc. and don't commit the transaction until the entire defined process completes.

Pretty much every b2b exchange needs backoffice integration, not so much for the XML mapper and DTD's but for the workflow and transaction control. Of course Ariba or C1 can always get in there and create their own product but right now they use webmethods for b2bi.

Heres some examples of recent companies doing this (right now its just webmethods but they are the current leader, BEAS must have something too but I don't see any PRs)
