Alcatel in Optics Valley

Alcatel's presence in Optics Valley is multi-faceted: one of Alcatel's research centers is located in Marcoussis. In addition, a few months ago Alcatel and the CNRS decided to form an opto-electronics research and development center within this research center.

Alcatel and France Telecom have created Opto --- a research lab for opto-electronic components. Also located within the Alcatel facility in Marcoussis, Opto brings together Alcatel's opto-electronic component research and the bulk of the CNET's opto-electronic and micro-electronic activities, to meet increasing demand for opto-electronic components and micro-electronic activities. Alcatel --- a key optics component supplier --- is strengthening its position by pursuing investment in this field through an ambitious program known as "Optronics 2000". This program will double the size of Alcatel's principal existing production unit in Nozay (Essonne), to 11,500 square meters (115,000 sq. ft). It will include opto-electronic chip production activities as well as the assembly and testing of active and passive modules. This extension, which should be completed this year, will require an investment of EUR 93 million and will create 500 jobs over three years.
